Fishing
Penygraig Cottage is the perfect place to enjoy a fishing visit to our famous rivers, The Towy (Tywi) and Cothi. Whether fishing by night or day, the secluded and peaceful location is less than a mile from the Cothi at Pontargothi and less than 2 miles to Nantgaredig Bridge, a well known stretch of the Towy. The picturesque village of Pontargothi offers three pubs with restaurant facilities a 20 minute walk from Penygraig.
Penygraig Cottage and Granary is located within 500m of the Cothi river, which boasts Edwinsford Fishery Wales about 6 miles from its door. Probably the most significant fishery on the Cothi and Towy catchment in Wales. Salmon enter the Cothi as early as April with grilse runs on any summer spate/autumn run through september, until the end of the season in October. Sewin run both the Cothi and Towy throughout the season.
The River Towy begins high up in the Cambrian (Black) Mountains, descending steeply through Rhandirmwyn and Cilycwm before passing the first major town of Llandovery where she levels off and runs through to Llanwrda, Llangadog and Llandeilo. Below Llandeilo, she runs through Dinefwr, Golden Grove and Dryslwyn before reaching Llanarthne, Llanegwad and Nantgaredig/Pontargothi where she meets the Cothi. She then runs through to White Mill and Capel Dewi and Llangunnor before running past Abergwily and into Carmarthen town and down to the estuary. The Towy is famous for its history as a prime Seatrout fishing river.
